STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Automobile Association of American has awarded its 2009 Four Diamond rating to Sabal Palm House Bed & Breakfast, a quaint lodging spot in Lake Worth, Fla., of which Colleen and John Rinaldi are owners and innkeepers. And why are we not surprised that both Colleen and John grew up on Staten Island?
Colleen graduated from Susan Wagner High School and New York University and John from Curtis High School and St. John University. John's great-uncles owned the former J's Villa Restaurant in Great Kills and his grandmother owned Rosie's Sandwich Shop and Diner in Mariners Harbor.
"We love the tropical weather, and our location in downtown Lake Worth is close to the beach, great restaurants, antique shops and art galleries. It reminds of us of old New Dorp Lane when we were growing up. We feel very much at home here and are thrilled when we have guests that also grew up on Staten Island," said John. Colleen and John have been welcoming guests to the comforts of home since 2003.
With views of the Lake Worth Municipal Golf Course and the Intracoastal Waterway, the bed-and-breakfast is only a half-mile from the ocean, within walking distance of trendy Lake Worth shops and restaurants and a short drive to Palm Beach and Worth Avenue. All rooms are named after and decorated in the style of artists like Renoir and Michelangelo.
There's more. Colleen, a former Wall Street international equities trader, prepares morning muffins and afternoon tea and her home-baked treats are served daily to B&B guests. John, a former New York personal injury attorney, prepares a delicious gourmet breakfast every morning. "We joke with guests that this is the only place you can be served by an attorney and enjoy it," said Colleen.
The 1936 two-story luxury B&B is the only B&B from Orlando to Miami to receive four diamonds from AAA and joins an elite circle of Four Diamond winners, as only 3 percent of the estimated 32,000 AAA-rated lodgings attain such a high level of excellence. AAA stated that "the most notable trend represented is the industry-wide shift to residential-inspired design and amenities in response to guests' desire for a lodging experience more reminiscent of home."
